Chicken Tractor Plans
75Small Chicken Tractors
For most families residing in an urban or suburban setting, a small chicken coop is most appropriate. A few chickens will provide the family with plenty of fresh eggs and minimize the work involved in maintaining a flock of chickens. The first decision that should be made is if the chicken coop is going to be portable. A movable chicken coop or chicken tractor has many advantages. Because they typically have no floor, the chickens can enjoy scretching for food on the ground, thus making them "free range". It is an established fact the eggs produced by free range chickens are healthier. Another advantage is that by periodically moving the tractor, different areas of the yard can be fertilizes by the chicken waste, while at the same time eliminating eccessive build-up that has to be cleaned. Make sure any chicken tractor plans that you are reviewing have provisions for adequate predator protection, and at least one nesting box that is easily accessible.
